For a lot of us, home has also become part office 💼. I thought it relevant to start by sharing a book on how you can create less cluttered, peaceful, and creativity-fostering home-(office) environments. I was part of a workshop during which the instructor mentioned Marie Kondo’s book, “The Life-Changing Magic of Tidying Up”, along the tagline: “The environment you create at home is a reflection of your state of mind 🧠. To have a clear mind, and therefore be more efficient, start by decluttering your home.”

Marie Kondo goes in detail through her Konmari method of decluttering and tidying up spaces. The methodology is simple and it is based on the essential question: “Does this item (whichever one you are holding) spark joy?” It follows 3 main steps: Discard > Tidy Up > Store.

Marie Kondo goes in detail on how to go through the process, complimenting it with examples from some of her clients. She defines a sequence of four main possession categories (including sentimental ones) with advice on how to assess if an item should stay or if it should go, and how to store it. An alternative to reading the book is the 8-episode Netflix Series “Tidying Up with Marie Kondo”.

I went through my whole apartment, 60 squared meters, following each and every step of the Konmari method. The results:

- More than 60 kg of donated clothes 👕 I had not used in years and were taking up space
- Over 40 books 📚 gifted or passed on to someone who will give it a better use
- Eight massive trash bags of things I had accumulated through my 11 international moves

A question to you: How do you balance sharing your work and living space? Are you finding your head/home/office space cluttered? What do you to do create space for yourself?
